Every year, there are more than 1,500 premeditated acid attacks in the world, but much more go unreported.
On 14th March 2022, Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTi) released a report detailing the use of Sulphuric Acid in the supply chains of key industries, including Fashion & Textiles – and their role in the handling, storage and safe disposal
of acid. The report was launched by HRH Princess Anne at St. James’ Palace with the presence of representatives
from the fashion and textiles industry.
To launch the report, we told the story of acid attack survivors from a different perspective. From inside their tear.
We collected and photographed the tears under the microscope. The tears were turned into an immersive VR experience where guests can travel inside a survivor’s teardrop for 3.5 minutes, while they listen to survivors’ testimonials with music scored by famous composer Nitin Sawhney. The campaign also included 3 renders and a 3D live installation.
At the event, representatives of the fashion and textiles industries were led to sign a pledge committing to help ASTi to end acid violence.
